OGE – Office of International Programs

University of Mississippi

Newly Admitted International Students

ManualsOIP looks forward to welcoming all admitted international students to the University of Mississippi. In this section, you will find steps that are both necessary for your enrollment at the university and helpful as you prepare for your student visa application and travel to the U.S.

This information pertains to those students who are coming to the university as undergraduate or graduate students.

STEP 1
Turn in the necessary documents related to your intended visa classification to the Office of International Programs.

  • F-1 and J-1 students must show proof of sufficient finances before an I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students) can be issued by the Office of International Programs (OIP). The I-20 or DS-2019 must be presented at the U.S. Consulate when applying for a student visa.
  • A Student Transfer Eligibility Form is required for those who currently reside in the U.S. See OIP forms.
  • Those who will hold a status other than F-1 or J-1 must submit a copy of their I-94 or other document that shows what status they will hold.

STEP 2 (optional)
Arrange for express mail of your I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students). The standard process for mailing of I-20s and DS-2019s is for the Office of International Programs to use U.S. postal airmail and to use the address listed as the present address on the student’s application for admission. This form of mail does not have a tracking number. Incoming students who wish for their document to be sent through express mail may arrange for this by entering shipment and payment details in the account they create at https://study.eshipglobal.com.  The site works best with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers. In creating an account, please list your name as it appears on your official admission documents which should also match your passport. When asked to select the sender’s address, you will have the option to search for the University of Mississippi and select the Office of International Programs. You will be asked for your university student id number. If you do not know this number, enter uemsid-xxxx. Payment for express mail shipment can be made using a Visa, Mastercard or Discover credit card. Status updates on the progress of your shipment will be sent by University Express Mail Service. Additional information about the service is available in the FAQs section of the eShipGlobal site.

STEP 3
Access your WebID and reset the password. As an admitted student, you should receive an email with your WebID asking you to reset your password. Your WebID will be used throughout your time at the university for processes such as applying for on campus housing, course registration, acceptance of scholarship awards, viewing grades, etc.

STEP 4
Make Housing Arrangements. Visit OIP’s Housing page for more information about your housing options.

STEP 5
Apply for a U.S. visa. Visit OIP’s Obtaining a Student Visa page for more information about the visa process.

STEP 6
Make plans to attend the International Student Orientation program and the Undergraduate or Graduate School orientation.

STEP 7
Make plans for arrival to Oxford. OIP will provide shuttle service from the Memphis International Airport to Oxford on the official arrival day.  On this day you will be greeted at the Memphis International Airport by Ole Miss staff. You will then travel by shuttle to Oxford where you will be escorted to your pre-arranged housing. This official arrival day shuttle service must be arranged 4 weeks prior to arrival. All new incoming international students should email the Office of International Programs, at ipdept@olemiss.edu to request this service if you have not been previously contacted.
